Data export
Reporting, analytics and warehouse sync
What it is
Enterprise customers want two things from their data in your product: reports that show the value they're getting, and a way to get raw data into their own warehouse. The first means dashboards for admins and executives. The second means scheduled exports or direct syncs into Snowflake, BigQuery or S3 that their analysts can build on.
Renewals are argued with data. The executive who signs off on the renewal rarely logs in, so the reporting has to reach them.
What it takes
About 4–8 engineer-weeks to build in-house, or 2–4 using Prequel, Bobsled or Snowflake data sharing.
Answer these first
- Product: What outcome did the customer buy, and how do we measure it?
- Product: Who reads the reports: admins, analysts or executives?
- Engineering: Which warehouses do our customers use?
- Engineering: Are our metric definitions written down and stable?
- Security: What data is allowed to leave our systems in an export?
- Sales: What data do customers ask for in business reviews today?
