Admin console
Self-service enterprise administration
What it is
An admin console is where a customer's administrators run your product for their company without contacting you: managing users and roles, configuring SSO, setting security policies and viewing usage and billing. Enterprise admins also expect some control over change, such as advance notice of updates and the ability to delay a rollout to their users.
Large customers can't file a support ticket for every admin task. Self-service administration is what makes the product manageable at their size.
What it takes
About 4–8 engineer-weeks to build in-house.
Answer these first
- Product: Which admin tasks create the most support tickets?
- Product: Do customers need to delay or schedule product changes?
- Engineering: Can we build the console on the same API customers would use?
- Security: Which admin actions need extra confirmation or logging?
- Support: What can support do on a customer's behalf, and is it logged?
- Sales: What does the buyer's IT team expect to manage themselves?
